You cup my face,
Golden tears seep down from my eyes.
You tell me everything will be okay.
I give you a small smile.
Smiling through the pain,
The pain I know all too well.
I flew too close to the sun,
I flew too close to you.
I was too close to the one thing I strived to have.
The one thing I wanted to hold,
To nourish, to cherish, to love, to embrace,
Hoping it would be reciprocated.
It was you, my dear.
You.
You were the one I flew too close to.
Now I’ve lost my wings.
I lost my ability to see you.
The scorching pain began to seep into my skin.
Pulling out an agonizing scream from my mouth,
Full of pain, sadness, confusion, anger.
My body burning up,
Like a fire was built inside of me, erupting like a disturbed volcano.
My wings change from white to gray to black with specks of white.
The form changes from feathers to ash to metal.
Finally,
I see a tear fall down your face as you hold me tight,
You whisper, “I love you too,”
And you let me go.
As I fall from the sky, my body heading towards Earth.
Where I await my death,
I close my eyes, taking in shuddering breaths as I whisper, “I love you more, my dear.”
My body continues to descend, my body turning into a burning ball of fire like a meteor.
“Goodbye, my beloved.”
“Seraph,” I open my eyes slowly, seeing you still high up in the sky
“Until we meet again.” I muttered, holding my body together with my arms.
I closed my eyes one last time.
My body falls deep into the ground, creating a crater of a hole.
My new metal wings cover my body, protecting me from damage.
This is it.
One last time.
I open my eyes wondering why I didn’t die.
My wings un-shield from the danger, revealing the bright sun.
My eyes water as I scream one last time.
A screeching pain of love that I never thought I would vocalize.
