Let’s start with Randolph Macon’s unique location. Nestled in the Center of the Universe, Ashland is a vibrant town that hosts various exciting events and activities. From lively farmer’s markets to the recent unveiling of the statue of Secretariat, the racing horse, there’s always something happening. This dynamic community fosters a strong sense of belonging, making it an ideal setting for your college experience.
When speaking about RMC’s campus, hundreds of things are offered to students, staff, faculty, and the yellow jacket community. Many students who come to RMC state that they “love the small class sizes”. There is always one-on-one support available on campus. The faculty-to-student ratio is ten to one, meaning that students gain personal attention from their professors, faculty, coaches, and administrators. It is known that more than five students who attend RMC report having a faculty mentor than on average. Students have also reported that no matter where they are on campus, they always find a person to lean on.
Randolph Macon College is also home to the “SURF” program. The Schapiro Undergraduate Research Fellowship programs allow students to work for nine weeks during their summers. The research conducted is full-time and supported by the guidance of a faculty member. This program was founded in 1997 through a gift made by the Schapiro family to help prompt scholarly research and build a strong learning environment for all students at RMC.
Of course, Randolph Macon offers many majors and minors. However, a prevalent one to focus on is the nursing program. In this program, students learn to impact patients’ lives through clinical practice and overall proper care. Within the classroom, students are placed in clinical rotations that allow them to practice their knowledge and skills right away. The size of the freshman nursing cohort is forty members. This means that students are always placed in small classes and/or groups to help enhance the skills of the program to their full potential.
