The Office of Campus Safety at Randolph-Macon College released its annual security & fire safety report for the 2021, 2022, & 2023 calendar years. As required by the college’s “Your Right to Know” policy, Campus Safety releases the report for the entirety of the RMC community to view. The report includes important crime and fire statistics, occurring on and around campus. Some of the statistics included are sourced from the Ashland Police Department in surrounding areas. Here are the main points from the 2023 calendar year at RMC:
Under general crime: There were four total reported cases of rape on campus and four off-campus. There were three total reported cases of fondling on campus. There were two reported cases of aggravated assault on campus. There was one reported burglary on campus. There was one reported motor vehicle theft on campus. Lastly, there were two reported cases of arson on campus.
Under alcohol and drug-related violations: There were 30 total reported disciplinary referrals granted on-campus under liquor law violations. There were 12 total disciplinary referrals granted on-campus under drug law violations, and 6 off-campus.
Under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA): There was one total reported case of dating violence on campus. There was one total reported case of stalking on campus.
There was only one reported fire incident on 10/22/23 where papers on a Moreland Hall bulletin board were set on fire. The building was evacuated at 2:45 am. No injuries or damage were reported.
The report also includes resources for RMC community members involving sexual misconduct, hate crimes, fire reporting, smoking regulations, residence life expectations, etc.
