Mac and Cheese with Alpha Gamma Delta (AGD) took place on Friday, April 12th, 2024, here on the campus of Randolph-Macon College (RMC). This event was held at the Fountain Plaza, where eleven different organizations came together to compete for the best mac and cheese dish. Competitions like this bring a lot of energy and creativity to RMC’s campus life!
Alpha Gamma Delta’s commitment to fighting hunger through its philanthropy is admirable. Their partnering with Feeding America and Meals on Wheels shows a dedication to addressing food insecurity at both the local and national levels. Feeding America is a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries, and local meals programs that help assist those with food insecurity. Meals on Wheels is a leadership organization that supports more than 5,000 programs across the country, including and dedicated to combating senior citizen isolation and hunger amongst communities. By supporting these organizations, Alpha Gamma Delta is making a substantial impact on the lives of individuals and their communities in need. It is inspiring to see campus organizations using their local resources and platforms to address such important societal issues.
There was quite a lineup of organizations that collaborated for this event. Alpha Gamma Delta partnered with Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Pi Omega, Habitat for Humanity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, LUXE Show Choir, RMC Panhellenic Council, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Theta Chi, mixing both sorority and fraternity life along with other campus organizations to compete against one another. Events like this not only promote friendly competition between different campus groups but also help foster a sense of community within the organizations.
Before the event took place, sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta took their time to sell tickets for everyone to come to their event and try as many mac and cheese dishes as they pleased. At the start of the event, guests were handed two tickets
to put towards their top two favorite dishes made by one of the eleven organizations. Depending on what guest preferred, they placed their tickets into the corresponding bin. After the event was over, tickets were counted to see which organization placed first, second, and third. In third place guests voted on Habitat for Humanity, second place was given to LUXE Show Choir, and first place was granted to the fraternity brothers of Theta Chi. All proceeds were split between Alpha Gamma Delta and Theta Chi’s respective foundations.
The collaboration between Alpha Gamma Delta and Theta Chi, along with the participation of the other organizations, showed the power of teamwork and philanthropy within the RMC community. Mac and Cheese with AGD demonstrated how students can come together to create lasting impacts on their communities along with supporting each other’s organizations.
